I'm currently working on an opening theme for a new series. The network and prod company asked for 90 seconds, but with 2 start and stops.
Leads me to believe they will use a piece for the opening and possibly a different section for the end credit crawl. If they do, that's better for me, since I'll collect royalties for both pieces then if they are different. Most production music has an "extended version" at or longer, a , a and a stinger that is or Those are the little snippets based on the theme that join the scenes. You would be smart to include an "underscore" mix as well.
There is quite an art to production music. With TV themes, the full length versions used to drive me nutty because, so often, the composer had built in a bridge section or other extended change-up that typically was left out of the actual broadcast theme -- and every time I was in the thrall of, say, the Man from U.
